The brief

Gardens is one of Cape Town's most characterful City Bowl suburbs — Victorian and Edwardian homes, tree-lined streets and compact outdoor spaces where every square metre of covered patio matters. This full white ceiling awning makes the most of the available space while keeping the visual weight of the structure to a minimum.

The build

The ceiling awning is full white throughout — white powder-coated frame, white interlocking ceiling panels and white fascia. In a dense City Bowl setting where the awning is visible from multiple angles, keeping the installation all-white ensures it looks as considered from outside the garden as it does from below. Concealed drainage prevents any visible gutter hardware on the perimeter.

Urban patio spaces face constraints that suburban gardens do not: neighbouring property lines are closer, privacy is more limited, and the awning is often visible from multiple angles simultaneously. A full white installation reads as a clean, finished element rather than an industrial structure. The absence of visible gutters, brackets or fascia fixings reinforces that impression.
